Somalia: fresh US air strike destroys Alshabaab compound
The Federal Government of Somalia in coordination with and supported by the US Government, conducted an airstrike inside the al-Shabaab-controlled city of Jilib.
One al-Shabaab occupied compound was destroyed in the strike.
This week has seen a number of successful military operations in and around the al-Shabaab stronghold of Jilib.
This inability to control their own territory highlights the weakness of al-Shabaab’s grip on power.
Only a few years ago al-Shabaab dominated most of southern Somalia, but now they have been forced to retreat under pressure from Somali, African Union, and American military forces.
This strike further highlights the determination of the FGS to bring to justice the al-Shabaab terrorist who have exploited the people of Somalia in their campaign of violence and fear.
At this time no civilians were killed or wounded in the attack.
