Somalia wants to host Blue Economy Conference next year
he Federal Government of Somalia has officially submitted its request to host the Blue Economy Conference in Mogadishu early next year.
The request submitted by the horn of the African state to host the significant high-profile conference was welcomed by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) during the head of state summit in Addis Ababa on Friday.
“IGAD Welcomes Somalia’s request to host a Blue Economy Conference in Mogadishu, Federal Republic of Somalia, in collaboration with IGAD early next year.” The regional body said in a communique issued after the summit.
The conference mainly emphasizes on the potential of the blue economy to create jobs and combat poverty and hunger by Bringing together the players needed to transition to a blue economy.
Kenyan government hosted the conference last year in Nairobi were several heads of states including President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and over representatives from 183 countries attended the forum.
The last year’s forum stressed the need to promote sustainable use of the seas, lakes, and oceans as well as their resources for sustainable economic development.
