FARMAAJO DECLARES 3 DAYS MOURNING AFTER DEADLY BLAST
Somalia will be in a state mourning for three days starting Sunday, President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo announced.
In a statement released by Villa Somalia early Sunday Farmaajo condemned the Mogadishu truck bombing that killed at least 50 people mainly civilians.
“Today’s horrific attack proves our enemy would stop nothing to cause our people pain and suffering” Farmaajo said in the statement.
“Lets unite against terror” he added.
He called Somalis to unite in the face of this latest tragedy.
“I call on our citizens to come out, extend help, donate blood and comfort the bereaved. Let’s get through this together” he said.
“We will observe 3 days of mourning for innocent victims, flags will be flown at half-mast. Time to unite and pray together. Terror won’t win” Farmaajo said.
This is the first time in his presidency that a state of mourning has been declared.
On Saturday a truck laden with explosives went off in the highly populated K5 junction in what eyewitnesses say is the deadliest explosion in many years.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack in a country that is facing an insurgency from Islamist militants Alshabaab and a Pro ISIS group.
