Somalia stops all football activities to mourn for the slain SFF official
Somali Football Federation headquarters has been closed down for 7 days of mourning following the recent assassination of an executive committee member, Osman Jama Diraa.
The decision to close down the SFF was reached during an extraordinary Somali FA executive committee meetingon Saturday. The country also stopped all football-related activities during the seven days of mourning which started from Saturday, August 19, 2017.
“We have lost a great friend and a brother, who has spent much of his life time for the development of the game. The seven days if just a fixed mourning, but he will always be remembered by all of us. His death is a great loss for us” SFF president, Abdiqani Said Arab, said in a statement after the decision to close the headquarters and to stop all football-related activities was taken by the SFF executive committee on Saturday.
The late Diraa, was the second SFF high profile official to be killed in the war-devastated country for the past five years. It was on April 4 2012, when former Somali FA president, Said Mahmoud Nur, was killed in a suicide explosion at the National Theatre in Mogadishu.
