Somalia: Prime Minister jets off to Ethiopia for IGAD summit

Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre and a delegation he was leading has left Mogadishu for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

PM Khayre was seen off at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport, by senior government officials, including a number of ministers and Federal lawmakers.

The Prime Minister will attend the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) summit, which is set to discuss the situation in South Sudan and Somalia.

This is the second overseas trip by Somali PM since he took office in March 2017.

Sources said, President Mohamed Abdulahi Mohamed Farmajo was invited to participate the IGAD heads of state emergency summit in Addis Ababa, but sent his PM for undisclosed circumstance.

Somali President Farmajo is expected to receive in Mogadishu a high-level delegate from Saudi Arabia in this week to discuss about the recent Gulf crises.

On Sunday, President Farmajo met with Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs Sultan Bin Saad Al Muraikhi in Villa Somalia, days after his government stood a neutral position on the diplomatic row that hit the Middle East.
