Somalia: Airstrike Targets Al-Shabab Training Base near Jilib
Unidentified warplanes hit Al-Shabab training base in Welmarow village, about 68KM from Jilib town in southern Somalia, locals said on Saturday night.
According to a resident in Jilib, who sought anonymity due to safety concerns, several loud explosions were heard at the base, where the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group used as recruiting and training facility.
Heavy gunfire was heard after the explosions that locals say were huge bombs coming warplanes that hovered the area shortly before the said strikes.
The militant group neither confirmed the airstrike and the gunfire heard near Jilib on Saturday night nor denied.
The airstrike comes barely a day after Al-Shabab fighters using rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns raided Kenyan army base in Kulbiyow as Jubbaland security forces claimed they have repulsed the Friday night attack which happened four months after a deadly attack on the same army camp that left dozens of Kenyan soldiers dead.
